Now for a real update!

Yesterday I had a little bit of time, so I thought I would give a little teaser update of a few short things going on. Well now I have a little more time, like 20 minutes, to write a real blog!

I have been LOVING my job! The first couple of days of the semester were horrible, I'm not going to lie. I called my mom and asked her if it was too late for me to quit and find a new major! But mostly it was bad because it was so busy with patients and all the new students getting trained, and a lot of other things.

So you may remember the post that I said I got the new job, but I don't think I have actually said what it is I do. As the Operations Lead, I am in charge of anything that has to do with day to day operations. Think of The Office, when Jim got hired to do the day-to-day manager stuff... I'm the Jim in this scenario! I work with the students in the front as well as the students in the back and make sure they are doing their job right. I work with the schedules of the day to day and making sure each Provider gets a break when they want one, or move patients around if it doesn't work for that provider. I'm also in charge of the providers schedule, so if one of them want a day off, they email me and I bring it up at the meetings we have each week. I got to a ton of meetings. Thursdays I have a management meeting from 8-9, then a conference call meeting with Provo from 9:15-9:45. Last Thursday we had a lot of people from the University come over and talk to us about what we are doing, so that added 2 more meetings! Every Friday there is a meeting with just the Providers (I say Providers instead of Doctors because some of them are Nurse Practitioners and some of them are Physicians Assistants) and the management team.

Let me explain more on the management team. There are three of us students in these positions. One is the Coordinator, then me, the Operations Lead, and then there is a Training Lead. We are basically running the health center with the help of our mentors. The Coordinators mentor is the Health Centers director, my mentor in the Operations Manager, and the training lead reports to the Head Nurse! The Health Center is now a Student Run Health Center! We are literally running it! Its such an amazing learning experience!

President Henry J. Eyring (Henry B Eyrings son) just wrote a book called the Innovative University. In the book he talks about new ways of learning! He is one of the Vice Presidents here at BYU-Idaho, and he came to the Health Center last week to see what the new management team was about. He said that what we were doing was great, and that if the book hadn't already been released he would have written about us in his book! President Miyaski (another VP of the school but also a general authority) came by as well, he said what we were doing having the students running the center was fulfilling prophecy!

I'm not trying to toot my own horn here... I'm just saying that my job here is kinda a big deal! BYU and BYU Hawaii's health centers have called us and asked us how we are doing it! They are quite impressed! It is giving me all the experience I need to go into the work force after college! I mean I still have 2 semesters left and then a mission after that, but once I'm applying for a real job, I can say... Oh I was the Operations Lead managing 40+ students as we ran a Health Center that had a patient volume of over 13,000 patients! I'm kind of excited!!!

Also... a little unrelated to this post, but it is almost October... so therefore I am listening to Christmas music!!! I think that once it is Fall semester you are allowed to listen to Christmas music! It just fills me with all sorts of happiness. You know what doesn't fill me with happiness though, the fact that my dear Mr. David Archuleta is doing his Christmas tour and going to 3 places in New York, and 4 in California, but not hitting Idaho or Arizona once! And I missed the one in AZ because of work... SO LAME!!! I may go an entire year without seeing him live! Thats kind of a scary thought! hahahaha

"I wish someone would update their blog!"

My roommate said that to me a couple of days ago... I guess I have been a blogger slacker lately! Its just that there isn't too much going on besides work! I thought maybe I could update you all briefly with whats been going on though...

All my shows started again last week, so that has kept me very busy! I'm really excited about Greys this season! Also for Castle, Glee, Modern Family, Happy Endings, The Office, Community, and Bones!!! Wow, I have way too many shows!

Today I have been listening to Stereo Hearts on repeat basically... all day long! I think my co-workers might have gotten annoyed with the repeat of the song in my office, and the fact that I was singing it all day long too!

Today is also Preston Hatch's birthday, so shout out to Elder Hatch! HAPPY 20th BIRTHDAY!!!

I did laundry today... I hate doing laundry.

FHE is in about 40 minutes, I'm excited because my group seems pretty fun, but I have to go to the grocery store after that, and finish folding my laundry, and watch Castle, so I hope that FHE isn't too long tonight.

I got a new bottle of Smart Water that I have been using around the apartment. Last semester I told my roommate Bri that I wanted to drink more water, so she would pay attention to when my bottle was empty and she would refill it for me and put it in the fridge. I wish she was still here. :(

Pay day was a few days ago, and working 40 hours a week is my new favorite thing ever!!!! Even though I'm still not making a ton per hour, the amount of hours I am working makes up for it! Yay for having money to spend... I think I'm going to buy new clothes, thats better than wasting it all at Taco Bell.

I had Costa Vida again today... I think I'm addicted.

Oh and I am in love with Adam Levine! He is so gorgeous!

Butterfly!

My roommate called me a social butterfly as I came home the other night. I haven't ever been called that in my whole life! Right when I was about to start college I saw a little thing online. It said: Social Life, Good Grades, Adequate Sleep. Choose 2 and Welcome to College. And boy is that the truth! I could never balance having good grades with a good amount of sleep AND a social life.... so for the past 2 years, I didn't have one! There was about two semesters that I had super social roommates and therefore felt like I was being social by sometimes participating with them... This semester has so been SO DIFFERENT!!! All I have going on for me right now is work from 8-5. When I come home I'm free until 8 the next morning! That means I have time for a social life!

Monday I went to FHE and met a lot of new people! Then these guys came over that evening and I stayed up playing games with them until almost curfew.

Tuesday I went to my dear friend Jessica's apartment with Aubrey and Lauren and played games with them!

Wednesday I went to Costa Vida with Rianne, and then my friend from the summer came over and talked with me.

Thursday I went to Idaho Falls with my summer roommates Jordan and Rhiannon and we had dinner at The Olive Garden, then we saw a movie at the cheap theater.

Friday I went over to Aubrey and Laurens and started a movie night, and then got interrupted when Brooks came over, and ended up sitting outside and talking for a good couple of hours. (Oh, and I saw Doug Gillette which was super weird, because he looks JUST like I remember Aaron looking, but he was with a group of guys I didn't know and Dallin was no where to be seen!)

Today I went and saw Lion King in 3D, and it was AMAZING!!! And no I didn't cry, I just got something in my eye when Mufasa died. That movie is just so good! I just love Disney!!!

I have thought of a thousand things I could have been blogging about during the week, like how I left my apartment and was back in 6 minutes with Taco Bell, or like how I am going to go to England to husband hunt one day because I'm in love with their accents, or how I'm going crazy at work and how maybe being an Healthcare Administrator will be harder than I thought, or how I'm meeting Henry J. Eyring on Tuesday to tell him about my new position at the Health Center, or how I am in a boy-hating mood because I may or may not have gotten my heartbroken earlier this week! But I never found the time to blog about all of that amongst the busy-ness that is my life! All in all, I have loved the first week of this semester. I have been sad a couple of times, but I have been happier a few more times than that! I have been stressed a couple of times, but I have had fun a few more times than that! I have great roommates, and from what I can tell a great ward! I'm really looking forward to this semester!

P.S, this blog was not to boast or brag about all the friends that I have, merely to remind myself that I know how to be social... and I hope I did not just jinx myself by saying that!!!

P.S.S. The only thing I haven't liked so far about this week was the lack of Tamazine time I have had. She is my roommate and my favorite person right now. But she works each evening from 5 to close, and so I rarely see her! I just hope someday she will stop working all together and will play with me more often!

P.S.S.S. She just told me that my outfit matched my computer! That was a very nice thing for her to say!

P.S.S.S.S My camera is still dead and I have not bought another one yet, so I have no pictures to share. One day that will be fixed!

Where'd it go?

So in the summer, the wards are a little bit messed up. My ward wasn't meeting, so I went to the 4th ward. I didn't see my bishop all summer so I didn't pay my tithing. Instead I have a sticky note on my computer that I have been adding up all the tithing money I owe, so when my ward is back I can pay it. Well I was looking up what I owe, and I can't imagine that I made all that money this summer. By the looks of it, I should have made quite the little fortune this summer, working 40 hours hours a week for almost 2 months adds up! And yet, looking at my bank account, I have nothing! I just don't understand! Okay, I do... maybe this has something to do with the fact that I can spend money like a teenager with daddy's credit card! Most of it is spent on doing things too, not even on stuff! I spend money to go to the movies, to go to dinner, to go to Idaho Falls... The last time I bought myself something just to have something was the aloe vera lotion I got after my trip to the salon (See This Blog Post). I don't really know what I wanted to accomplish in writing this blog, besides just complaining about my poor-ness. One day I will be better at saving more money! Until then, I think I'm just going to be a "starving college student" for the next 11 months of my life.

Go Around Again!!!

Today I went to the Museum of Idaho and saw the Bodies exhibit, and then I went to the Eastern Idaho State Fair!!! Can you say... BEST DAY EVER!!!

The Bodies exhibit was amazing! My favorite part was the fetal development! It was so so so cool!

But the fair was for sure the best part of the day!!! Rhiannon and I got the wristband to ride all the rides! We had such a godo time spinning and flipping upside down! The fair played some of the best music, and had the best/most disgusting food ever! I had a fried bread taco, which was so good! And a tiger ear! Oh My Gosh, I was so in love with all that food! It was so so so good! After some rides and food, we watched this comedian guy, and he was pretty funny! And then we rode some more rides, and ate some more food! I didn't see any of the animals or the rodeo, but I was totally fine with that! I just like riding the rides and eating the food!

I wish everyday could be a day off spent at the fair! Too bad I have to head back off to work tomorrow. :(

The Lucky One

I just finished reading another Nicholas Sparks book! The Lucky One is so so so good!!! I would recommend reading it if you haven't. The reason I started reading it is because they are making a movie on it, and Zac Efron is going to be the lead. So the whole time I read it, I thought about him, and how awesome the movie is going to be. Then after I finished it, I decided I needed to watch some Zac movies! Last night Tamazine came over, and we watched him in Carlie St. Cloud!



Then today I watched 17 again...




And now I am currently watching Hairspray!



Anyway, I'm kind of in love with this man! I might be watching some HSM later today too! hahaha, its just one of those weekends! Here is a sneak peek of him in The Lucky One. Logan Thibault, back from war, and ready to find the girl who saved his life in Iraq! I can't wait!!! I just hope the movie comes out before I leave for my mission!

I'm Not an Idiot...

Businesses do lots of tricky things to get you to buy more of their products! Buy one get one half off... Sounds like a good deal, unless you only really wanted to buy one, because now you are stuck buying a second thing because "It was half off, I saved money!" Or buy 3 get 3 free, oh Bath and Body Works! You know I only need one thing of new lotion, but buy 3 get 3 free sounds like SUCH an amazing deal, that I think I will just end up spending almost $40 today, when all I wanted was a $9 lotion... How did they get me to do that?!?!?! Or when you go to Aero and you see the shirts marked for $20, but they are on sale for $15! Really the shirt costs $15, they just say it costs $20 and tell you its on sale so you think you are getting a good deal.

Well, I'm not an idiot (see title of post). I don't fall for these simple tricks, because I took Economics! I know how things work, and I'm all for tricking the system!

Today I had an appointment to get my hair done. A cut and color, costs the same as it always does. But then my stylist tells me that there is a promotion, and with any coloring, you get a free tan! "Would you like to get the free tan," my nice stylist says, her agenda hidden under the fake facade of her nice cosmetologist ways. "Sure, why not!" Free is free! I don't care what my dad said about no such thing as a free lunch, these kind people were giving me a free tan, and I was taking it! I mean, I never would purposely spend money on giving myself skin cancer, but if they want to give it to me for free, and wrap it up in a nice tan package, then I'm all for it! You see they give people a free tan thinking the person will want more, and come in and pay for them! HA, I'm smarter than you guys, I will just take this one tan and leave! Hence the tricking their system, and not being an idiot!

She takes me into the room and explains to me how to use it. As stated above, I'm not an idiot!!! I know how to work a tanning bed! Its not my first rodeo here people! (This will have been my 3rd!) I ask how much time it is set to, and she tells me 15... Well usually I only go 12, and as I am having the internal argument if I should go the whole 15, she is about to leave, so I quickly ask her if she can set it to 12 minutes, and she does. So here I am, lying in the tanning booth, feeling pretty good about my free lunch tan, oh and my new hair cut, and before I know it the time is up! I'm super sad getting out, because I actually really do enjoy lying in the bed! I feel all warm inside, it reminds me of being in Arizona. As I'm heading out the door, I am feeling super great about my whole experience at the salon.

I call up my dear friend Tamazine and tell her I am ready to get my Friday night on!!! She comes over shortly after that call and tells me I look a little red. I explained to her about the free tan, and we go about our evening. Part of our evening included a movie, and as we watched it, all thought of my red skin faded away. But the minute I stand up and walk out of the theater, I feel my skin sting a little. As I get home and change into my pajamas, I see the extent of my free tan. YIKES! As my roommate put it, I got way more color in a 12 minute booth than I did 6 days in California! And by more color, she means the color red of course!

I sting everywhere. My thighs hurt. My back stings. I even have a line on my neck that got more color than the rest (not sure why but I think it has to do with my double chin covering up the other part of my neck.) Anyway, as I brushed my teeth today, I thought to myself why on earth I even took the tan! Never again will I go tanning, even if in the moment it felt great. Even if it was free. Even if someone held me at gunpoint and told me to go tan. (K, I probably would if that last one was the case, but thats a very extreme case and I'm hoping it won't ever happen!)

I guess the point of this blog was to tell you, that I'm an idiot. An idiot... with very red skin, and probable skin cancer.
